The new guitar was born from an idea we had while doing the album in Paris, and I had Fender send over a Mexican strat with the Floyd installed, and I replaced all the electrics with a HSH setup, a Seymour Duncan Reversed Zebra 59 in the neck, and a Zebra JB in the bridge just to see what it sounded like.
Davey loved the look and sound and I sent over all the specs to the Fender Custom Shop, also giving them the exact neck profile and dimensions from his No1 California Series Tobacco Strat which he loves. The new neck is birds eye maple with rosewood board.
We decided on the 70s headstock as a nod to Jimi, and we have now replaced the zebra pickups with a custom wound SD JB bridge, an over wound single coil in the middle and a custom wound Alternative 8 neck for a fuller tone. These have been built for us by SD in cream to match the pickguard.
Think of it as an updated, more stripped down version of Dave's classic Kossoff Stratocaster. We love it, and its nice to hear you guys dig it as well!
I'll get you some decent close up photos when the tour settles down in a few weeks. Please don't message me privately by email or FB with questions, as I do not have the time to respond. I'm sure you guys understand!
